This year’s homecoming week was one for the books. The final event of homecoming week took off Friday night with North Augusta Varsity football team taking on Airport. Things got started and kicked off at 7:30 p.m. From early on in the game you could tell North Augusta was constantly attacking the defense and trying to keep their undefeated record. The Yellow Jackets looked absolutely dominate the whole night on their home turf. North Augusta scored early in the first quarter on a rush touchdown from senior running back, Derius Gibson and got North Augusta on the scoreboard first with an early six to nothing lead. Following that, North Augusta went for the two-point conversion going to senior wide receiver, Dejuan Bell, running him to the outside for an easy score and giving the Yellow Jackets an eight-point advantage. Shortly after that, North Augusta got help from one of their offensive lineman, Jules Williams, when he got in the end zone for a yard rush. In addition, North Augusta stayed on the attack mode by going for a two-point conversion once again with Landon Washington completing a pass to senior wide receiver, Tez Collins.  Senior quarterback of the Yellow Jackets, Landon Washington started the second quarter with a quarterback run, making another touchdown. Airport would claw their way back into the game scoring on seventy-yard reception, but other than that the first half was totally owned by the Yellow Jackets.  Halftime was the crowning of this year’s Homecoming Queen. Jayla Gaines finished second runner-up while Danaja Visitacion finishing first runner-up. Amari Young won Homecoming Queen racking up the most votes. Afterwards, she gave her opinion on why she chose to run for homecoming queen,

“I never really thought about it until my friends told me and convinced me to run because they thought I could actually win. I couldn’t have done it without their support and help.”

North Augusta came out totally dominating the second half of the game. Kayshawn Jones started off the rally for North Augusta with a quarterback run that resulted in a touchdown. Dejuan Bell continued his great play in the second half with a punt return that he scored on and with a reception touchdown off of a pass from Landon Washington. North Augusta finished off their outstanding play until the finish line grabbing a lopsided victory of 47-7. This win pushed North Augusta to a perfect record of 7-0. When asked on how his guys were able to play so well with very few errors and was so important about this victory, Coach Thomas said,

“I just told the guys to stay in attack mode and try to keep the defense and offense on their heels the entire night. This victory is important because I feel that our defense played tremendous and it sets us up perfectly for our next game. We need to do exactly what got us the win today in our next and play even better if we expect to stay undefeated.”

North Augusta’s star senior quarterback put on such an impressive performance. He was nearly perfect completing eleven of his intended thirteen passes and putting up three touchdowns. When asked how he was able to put up such a great stat line and performance and how will he be able to continue that into the next game, he answered,

“I just wanted to stay focus and take what the defense gave me. I know next week I will have to do the same next week in order to get the W.”

Furthermore, North Augusta got great contributions from Chris Torres and Tory Quiller on the defensive end and from Deandre McKinnis on the offensive consistently rushing the ball. Next week’s game is a rival game against South Aiken on Friday, October thirteenth. Kickoff time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
