The quest for perfect tuxedo advice can been long and arduous, but after some inside investigation, it’s time for the lowdown on “proper” men’s attire for the upcoming prom.
Like any systematic approach, let us start from the bottom-up. Dress shoes are an absolute necessity and there is one very important thing to remember about picking the right kicks…the amount of comfort matters much more than the appearance.
An employee from Men’s Warehouse in Augusta helped explain some good choices in the comfort department. “Mephisto, and Johnston and Murphy make very comfortable dress shoes.” The two main types of dress shoes include the duller, more laid back look, or the so-shiny-I-can-use-this-as-a-mirror look. Regardless, lets move up in our analysis of the perfect prom outfit.
Vest, tie, bowtie? There certainly are a lot of choices when it comes to upper-body accessories. Well, we have more advice for those who haven’t quite decided on the right outfit. Bow ties “bring more attention to the neck and facial features,” said our handy-dandy Men’s Warehouse employee. “Ties, on the other hand, lengthen the appearance of the torso and make the person wearing them look slimmer.” So basically, it all depends on the preference of how each item looks on you. Don’t be afraid to try some things on in the store and see how they match up, but don’t forget…shampoo is better, it goes on first an cleans the hair.
In regards to the infamous tuxedo tee-shirt question, I believe Talledega Nights has already provided us with the perfect answer. The tux-tee gives off a vibe of, “yea, I like to be classy…but I’m here to party.” The employee at Men’s Warehouse also had some rather humorous insight about the tuxedo-tee shirt possibility. “If you want to be the guy that thinks he is funny, but no one else does, that’s the perfect choice.”
