Most prom attendees have almost no problem finding the perfect dress, best fitting tux, or the nicest place to eat beforehand. In fact, the most disconcerting problem seems to be figuring out what to do after prom! To ensure safety and after prom excitement, TYJ has a few thoughts for your late night destination. Of course, TYJ is not allowed to advertise, endorse, or really even talk about anything that would or could be potentially harmful, hazardous to your health and/or your life, and illegal . . .therefore all of the following ideas are good, clean fun.

Anyone up for a few campfire songs? A camping expedition after prom is perfect for those manly men and nature women. Now calm down girls, I know exactly what you are thinking: “Oh my gosh, I am NOT camping in a prom dress and heels,” but logically, you would change. Tents can be bought from local places such as Academy Sports or Dick’s Sporting Goods. You might even get lucky and your dad or another family member has a tent stashed somewhere. Make sure to buy a tent for the girls and a tent for the guys. And don’t forget the marshmallows for s’mores!

Going to the lake seems to be the popular choice for after prom destinations. If your family or a friend’s family owns a lake house, ask if maybe you and a few friends could borrow it for the night. Be sure to promise not to trash it, and clean up before leaving. Staying anywhere at night on or around a body of water as big as the lake could be potentially dangerous. Make sure you and your group of friends stay safe and away from the water during the night. If you have any ideas about going swimming or boating prom night, or the morning after, be smart and wear a lifejacket! It could save your life.

Maybe you are not into the ‘spending the night’ somewhere idea. North Augusta and Augusta both have a bowling alley, and the movie theater is right across the river. Perhaps you and that special someone just want to end the night with a cute romantic comedy. Check your local listings the week before prom and plan on the movie you and your friends or date would go and see. Movies are not for you? Bowling might be! A common option during nighttime is cosmic bowling. Black lights, neon pins and bowling balls might be the perfect end to a night of crazy dancing. Just remember to bring your own socks!

It’s always a possibility that you and your group of friends cannot decide between the few, entertaining after prom options. I do not think anyone would object to going to a friends house? Someone in your group is bound to have some awesome parents who would not mind hosting a few rowdy teens for the night. If your friend has a hot tub, a pool, or both, go for a midnight swim! There are many water games to choose from such as categories, sharks and minnows, or the most famous: Marco Polo. Board games are always a favorite in my group of friends. It may sound silly at first, but everyone will be into it after a few games of Apples to Apples or Catch Phrase. If you find yourself extremely bored, click the On Demand button on the remote and go to “Karaoke.” You may not want to use the remote control as a mic, but watching your friends jam out to “Baby Got Back,” or a Backstreet Boys single will most certainly put a smile on your face.

The most important thing to remember on prom night is to be safe and have fun. Juniors, try not to stress too much about having the perfect prom because there is always next year. Seniors, try not to be too uptight or controlling within your group of friends. So you are an underclassmen attending prom? Have no worries. You have at least two more proms you will be attending, giving you multiple opportunities to make it meet your standard of “perfect.” Prom is an important passage during high school years. Make it exciting and memorable.
