As with everything else in life, time changes things. Prom dress trends are no exception. Years past show trends such as fuller, longer dresses with very few prints. So while rifling through your older sister’s closet might be practical, it probably won’t be fashionable.
Prom Trends of 2010
Short Dresses: Short is the new long for prom 2010. Hemlines go up as years go by. Many stores also carry a large variety of short dresses in different length and with different necklines that can give you that fashionable edge
Prints, Printsts, and More Prints: Did we mention prints? Cheetah, Zebra, flowers, and tons of other patterns are all taking prom dresses by a storm. Instead of tulle and one color prom dresses the fashionable girl this year will be wearing a prom dress with prints. Prints add individuality to dresses and give the gown another dimension.
Bright Colors: While it is true that pastels have been a long favorite of prom dress designers the trend seems to be moving from Easter colors to almost neon colors. The brighter the better. Bright pinks, blues, greens, oranges, and purples are all gracing prom dresses this season.
Thinner Dresses- The poofy dress is slowing saying goodbye. Sleeker, more form-fitting dresses are taking the stage. This trend is a welcome to most because it will make dancing that much easier. Also those who wear sleeker dresses can get into and out of cars effortlessly.
Details: Forget the plain dresses of days past, details ranging from ruffles to flowers popping out of the dress to designs with studs are all in top style this season.
Interesting Necklines: The classic strapless and halter tops will forever be in style but a girl who is looking to make a statement might want to look into one shoulder dresses. The one shoulder trend is making a splash in the fashion industry and is just as reliable as the halter top and infinitely more reliable than the strapless. The one shoulder look provides the wearers with almost the same effect as the strapless minus the constant annoying tugging up.
