“Where should we go?” “What would impress her the most?” “I really don’t want to accidentally spill something on my dress…” “I just cannot afford that place.” “All I want is a Big Mac…”

Have any thoughts like these crossed your mind lately? Maybe not word for word, but I’m sure if you are attending prom this year, where to eat before is a big deal and a difficult decision.

When it comes right down to it, you should pick the place that would make you, your date, and your friends happiest. If that means driving to Burger King and getting a Whopper and a fry, do it! If your date is a vegetarian, (uh-oh…) and you want to impress her, there are a few much more elegant options from you to choose from.

Out in the greater Augusta area, restaurants are in over abundance. Logan’s, California Dreaming, French Market Grill, Outback, Bonefish Grill, Carrabba’s, Chop House, and Olive Garden are a few of the more popular restaurants. There are multiple Japanese restaurants in the area including Miyabi’s, Fugiama’s, and Karama’s. Making a reservation at any of these places would ensure seating and dining. Walking in with a big group a people and expecting to eat right away without a reservation is slightly unheard of.

Maybe the above restaurants are not what you are looking for. Downtown Augusta has places like Pizza Joint, Mellow Mushroom, The Boil Weevil, Blue Sky Kitchen, Nacho Mama’s, and New Moon Cafe. All of these places are extremely close to the location of prom this year, and the prices tend to run cheaper than most of the above mentioned eateries.

Let’s face it. All the money you had went into the suit on your back or the strappy heels with the pedicure. Talk to your parents or the parents of everyone in your group. A cook out is an awesome, nice thing to do before prom. Last year, a few parents grilled steaks and contributed things such as drinks, cups, salad, desserts, and silverware to our pre-prom dinner. Needless to say, it was a hit. Small and intimate, the gathering will be a lot quieter than a noisy restaurant with a lot of people you do not know looking at you because you are in a prom dress and tux.

Okay, for real. You have six dollars to your name, your parents are not into the whole idea of “grilling out,” and all you really want is some french fries. Ask your date how she feels about going to McDonald’s. Easy, cheap, and many people would get a kick out of you walking into Mickey D’s with a prom dress on. Maybe it would be fun to buy some Tostino’s frozen pizza bites or bagel bites and pop them in the oven for dinner. There are endless possibilities for what a couple or a group can do before prom.

Prom is all about fun and making memories but don’t do anything that might taint the night. Try to keep away from things with sauce, or messy foods. The quickest way to ruin prom night is having a ketchup stain on your white suit, or a grease stain on your silk dress.

You do not have to spend tons of money to make the night fun and memorable. Let’s be honest, most girls will not want to touch food wearing her “perfect prom dress,” and of course, guys could care less. Be considerate of other members in your group and make sure to consult about the places to go or look into. If you are really craving something extremely messy or juicy, be on the safe side and bring a bib.
