Projects, Tests, and Homework… Oh My!

We’ve all had that day. The day where you walk into school and your have tests or quizzes, or a project due in almost ALL of your classes. You got little sleep because you were up late perfecting that project, or getting the last bit of reading done, and now you’re worn out. Does this sound familiar? Well, the sad truth is that this is the epitome of the lives of most students at the high school, and it’s taking a toll on students’ grades.
The workload gets even worse when you are a student involved in extra-curricular activities. Sophomore Anna Tuten is not only an honors student, but also a member of the Jacket Regiment, as well as an avid dancer. “It gets a little ridiculous. The teachers pile on so much, and they don’t realize that we have six other classes, as well as activities to do after school. Last year there was a calendar, and that at least made it manageable. But when teachers keep piling on tests, quizzes, projects, and homework, it takes away from time to study for other classes. When we don’t have as much time to study, it hurts every single one of our grades.” Sadly enough, Anna is completely right.
However, the teachers don’t give out homework to torture kids. In fact, the reason is quite the opposite. Algebra teacher, Mrs. Davis, says “In order to excel in mathematics, you have to practice the concepts. If you don’t practice the concepts daily, you fall behind. The key to excelling at anything is practice, practice, practice.”
In order to succeed, a little time management goes a long way. Next time you feel overwhelmed with an exceedingly large amount of homework or studying to do, just manage your time. The first key is to cut out the extras. Instead of getting on Facebook or Youtube, do your homework; Procrastination gets you nowhere. Also, remember that you’re getting prepared for the future, and all the hours that you have devoted to math problems, vocabulary sentences and translating Spanish to English will pay off.

Best. Picture. EVER.
