It was one of those career days for the soon-to-be-40 year-old QB for the Vikings. Brett Favre scorched the Packers’ secondary as he finished the night 24 of 31 for 271 yards and 3 TDs as the Vikings beat the Packers 30-23. Though he will never say it, he was probably enthralled to get back at Packers’ GM Ted Thompson and all personnel in the Packers’ clubhouse.
“I don’t know how to explain it. I felt right, but I guess I never thought I’d be in that situation,” Favre said.
Brett Favre had a spectacular night, so did the Vikings, who are now (4-0). The Packers contained Adrian Peterson for most of the night, but they did not have an answer for Favre as he demolished their secondary and everyone else who failed to make tackles on screen passes. Favre is the only QB in the NFL who has a win against every team.
“My statement has been what I’ve done over my career,” Favre said. “One game does not define my career good or bad. I know what I’ve done. I’m proud of what I’ve done. I know I can play. I wanted to do what it takes to win.”
Favre seemed too uncomfortable with all eyes on him all week leading up to the big game. That did not slow him down at all; it was more of a motivation. Favre got the spark of energy that he needed when he connected with Visanthe Shiancoe with 3:2remaining in the 1st quarter. After that it was total Vikings domination.
Favre’s replacement in Green Bay, Aaron Rogers, was hassled all night by the Vikings front four. Jared Allen had a career day with 4.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble. Antoine Winfield intercepted Roger’s pass that ended up with the Vikings scoring the 1st touchdown of the game. The Vikings denied Green Bay a touchdown inside the 5 on all four downs that ultimately demoralized the Packers and put away the game.
