The season is young, but week 1 gave me some insight on how things could play out in the rest of the season.

1. Oklahoma will not return to the National Championship game for a consecutive season.

It hurts when you lose your all-star quarterback the first game of the season…just ask the New England Patriots. There’s no way freshman quarterback Landry Jones can lead this team to a Big 12 Championship, much less a National Championship.

2. BYU could go undefeated.

After an impressive win over a #3 ranked Oklahoma Sooners team, your season can only get easier. The Cougars have teams like Tulane, Colorado State, Utah State, UNLV, San Diego State, and New Mexico to face for the rest of the season. If they can jump the hurdles of Florida State and TCU, they could be headed to a BCS Bowl.

3. Ducks don’t fly…but their fists do.

The Oregon Ducks didn’t fair to well in their season opener against the Boise State Broncos who had been deemed overrated considering their weak schedule. The media did a good job of thrashing the Broncos and building up the Ducks when in reality, Boise State should have gotten a little more credit and Oregon a little less. Since Oregon was expected to win and didn’t, of course, the emotions on the field were high. After a little smack talk from the Bronco’s Byron Hout to the Duck’s LeGarrette Blount, a punch was thrown. In return Blount will miss the remainder of the season and the Ducks will miss having his talent in the starting lineup.

4. Steve Sarkisian will win Pac-10 Coach of the Year…if he doesn’t win NCAA Coach of the Year.
The Washington Huskies looked like an entirely different team from last season. Losing to the LSU Tigers 31-23, in your head-coaching debut, for a team that’s on the verge of breaking the Pac-10 record for consecutive losses? The a win would have been incredible, but the loss still gains some much needed respect for this Huskies football program.

5. Colt McCoy’s dreams of a Hesiman are slowly coming true.

Colt McCoy's "Heisman Hopes" are becoming reality.

Colt McCoy's "Heisman Hopes" are becoming reality.

The big three Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, and Colt McCoy have been the frontrunners for the coveted Heisman Trophy for the past two years. Tebow received the award in 2007, and Bradford in 2008, so you have to wonder is this going to be the year McCoy brings home the hardware. His chances look good as he is surrounded with weapons like Jordan Shipley, James Kirkendoll, and Greg Smith. And now that his in-conference counterpart Sam Bradford is out, things are looking good for the Texas Quarterback.

6. Florida will win the National Championship.

The Florida Gators won the National Championship the moment Tebow said, “I’m coming back for another year.” Enough said.
