Reading an unsuspecting hot crush’s Facebook status from 2 hours ago, checking up on Lindsay Lohan’s latest stint in rehab, straining your brain to solve an online sudoku puzzle; sound like the things you do online to escape boredom? The widespread use and availibility of the Internet, mixed with the decreasing amount of homework high schoolers work on, creates an underground society of Internet-surfing zombies. Not really, but it does create a ton of teenagers that have nothing better to do than waste time on the computer.

If you’re anything like me, when you have to waste time on the computer, it’s a great idea until you get down to it…then there’s nothing to do. Here’s some great ways to waste uber amounts of time on the computer.

1.Facebook

Look at all the stuff to browse on one Facebook page! pc:facebook.com/sarahpalin

Facebook is the not only the easiest way to stalk people, including ex-boyfriends, friends, teachers, or even your boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend, but it is also the best way to waste time. Reading the main page of statuses alone could take an hour, especially if you read posts from hours back. Then let’s say you click on one of those people who has a sweet status to see what other cool stuff they’ve said, theres another few minutes of time wasting. You will find yourself consumed by Facebook and two hours later, your eyes will start to ache and you’ll realize that the eggs your mom cooked for dinner are frozen solid, your homework is untouched, and your favorite show ended 5 minutes ago. Facebook is the best way to waste time on the Internet and if you aren’t careful, it will eat you alive. (Not really, but it may cause drowsiness and eye aches)

2. Games!
There are dozens of awesome websites that are dedicated solely to time-wasting games. One of the best websites for games is addictinggames.com, which offers many categories including Life&Style, Arcade, Puzzle, and Shooting. There are literally hundreds of flash games for your pleasure. The games are exactly as they say, addicting. After an hour of playing one game over and over trying to beat the high score, you will feel like a crack addict trying to get the next fix. Be careful with this one, it’s worse than Facebook for addiction. There are several other game websites including Liquid Generation (not at school), physicsgames.net, and the home of the TYJ favorite (FILL IT):surfnetkids.com

3. Formspring
Okay, Formspring may be considered “old” or “lame” to most people but admit it, you’ve spent countless hours reading garbage that other people post on Formspring. This website is designed for people to put anonymous comments or questions on other people’s page. This is the easiest way for mean girls to talk trash without repercussion, and teenage boys to stalk them without yeilding a restraining order. The person controls their page, and no questions can be shown unless they are approved by you, and you answer them back. Formspring can be fun and also dangerous. Be careful what you post and what you allow others to say. Regardless, Formspring.me is the perfect place to read outrageous questions that people ask, and the even more ridiculous answers.

4. Twitter
For those of you who can no longer get your stalker fix from Facebook, God invented Twitter. (Actually it was created by Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams) Twitter allows users to create somewhat of a blog, to type out their lives online. People can post what they’re doing, where they’re going, and who they’re going with, and anyone can read it. Celebrities often use Twitter, Justin Beiber being one of the most “followed” Twitter users, he uses it to put thousands of tween girls under his spell. Got the Beiber fever? 50,000 followers do. Twitter allows you to “follow” someone, meaning that you get every ‘tweet’ that they post. If George Clooney takes his dog out to defecate in his neighbors yard, you’ll know. If Lady Gaga and Elton John go out for a mid-day rendezvous, you’ll know. Twitter takes stalker to a whole new level, but legally. So, after you recover from your Facebook high and you start to feind for more, sign in to Twitter. One catch with Twitter: you have to keep all of this within 140 characters.

5. Celebrity Gossip!
(Stereo)Typically, more girls than guys like to read gossip about their favorite, or least favorite celebrity. This is a great idea for someone who’s looking to waste time. When checking out the latest on Lindsay Lohan’s drug and alcohol issues, or licking your lips over Channing Tatum at the beach, your mind will be consumed by the flashy lifestyle of celebrities. You’d be surprised how long you can sit infront of a computer looking at recent TMZ posts. Try it and time yourself, see how long you can stay entertained. Beware, you will get sick of Taylor Swift.

A page from Pandora Radio. PC:beyondtheonewayweb.com

6. Music Players
For the technology savy and music crazed teenagers of today, we have Itunes and dozens of other online music players. I can spend endless hours looking up and downloading music lost in the days of my youth. Online music players such as Grooveshark, Pandora, and Rhapsody have millions of songs ready to be consumed. Most of these music players are free, with the exception of Rhapsody, which will give you a few songs to preview. It’s crazy what songs remind you of and soon you will find yourself in a Bing comercial, bouncing from one song to the next that pops into your head.

7. Last but not least, there’s TYJNA.COM! This is probably your best option for wasting uber amounts of time online. TYJNA.COM has everything your heart desires: embarrassing pictures of your friends, articles about every school activity, advice on fall fashion, tips for the SAT, and a links page with hundreds of other websites that will waste even more time! The links page on TYJNA.COM will provide you hours of entertainment alone. So skip numbers 1 to 6 and go straight to #7, TYJNA.COM. Oh, wait, you’re on the website right now, reading this…you’re on the right track!
