Skirting the Dress Code

Imagine walking into first period and immediately being told that your skirt is too short. As you walk out of the room to go to the office, another student walks in who is breaking the dress code. But it is allowed for her. Why? Because she’s a cheerleader and she is “in uniform”.
When asked about the dress code violations in the uniform, cheer leading coach Mrs. Melton explains, “We got special permission from district and area to wear the uniforms during the school day.” But could someone consider this special treatment? An anonymous teacher shared her thoughts, “If there is a rule, every single student needs to follow it. Especially those who are considered role models.”
It is not just adults who think this. Some students also view this as unfair. Sophomore Larson Jones says, “I don’t see why they’re allowed to get away with it when other kids can’t.” This thought is shared not only by many students, but even some cheerleaders. Junior Varsity cheerleader Shelby Kenrick said, “We were talking about this the other day. I guess it is unfair. But as long as we don’t do anything vulgar or anything to abuse the privilege, it should be allowed.”
So many students have issues with the dress code without certain students being able to break the rules once a week. Some students are so used to seeing the uniform that they do not even notice. But the fact of the matter is that the uniforms violate the dress code. But with district and area supporting this decision, what can be done? Along with the cheerleaders bending their bodies, it seems they are also bending the rules.

Or, and I’m just going to put this out there . . . or, the cheerleaders could get uniforms that adhere to the dress code? Or, another crazy idea, they could NOT wear their uniforms to school and wear their warm-ups instead. Jeez, the rest of us can’t even have holes in our pants.

i agree with this. they get to wear their skirts with tights! as long as the skirt isnt so short to the point your hiking it down every 3 seconds, i dont understand why we cant wear a pair of tights underneath. we are high school kids and if the sight of COVERED knees is that distracting then the person is just immature.
