The new agendas rear an ugly new policy.

The new agendas rear an ugly policy.

The agenda policy at North Augusta High School is one that is, at times, highly impractical for students.  For years, the policy has been that students must carry around their agenda with a teacher’s signature if they plan on going anywhere.  However, the policy is being strongly enforced this year.

With stronger enforcement, students are beginning to ask questions.  Students want to know not only why we must have our agendas, but why nothing else will suffice.  David Emerson, a senior, wonders “Why do we have to carry our [school] agendas around all day even if we have our own agenda?  It seems like a rule that needs to be changed.”

With budget cuts, students were issued new agendas at the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year.  However, this year’s agendas are of far less quality than of those in the past.  Dissatisfied, many students decided to purchase their own agendas.  Equipped with new agendas, many were surprised to discover that the school-issued agendas are still required.  For most, this policy just doesn’t make sense.  Clara Formby, a sophomore, says “It seems impractical for us to have to carry around our old agenda even if we have a new one.”  Teachers and administrators are requiring the hall pass portion of the old agendas and are not permitting these pages to simply be torn out and inserted into a new agenda.

A major question that rises from this is why hall passes just can’t be written on slips of paper?  Why must passes be on the yellow hall passes?  Can nothing else suffice?  While some students question the policy, others agree with it.  Kay Meyer, a senior, is one such student that believes that the carrying around agendas is necessary.  Kay expressed that she “sees nothing wrong with the policy.  I think it stops students from forging passes, and it makes them much more responsible.”

For now, the agenda policy will stand as is.  Regardless of your stance on the issue, just remember to keep your agenda with you at all times to avoid punishment.

Students should just stay in class. That’s how learning happens. We don’t need a bunch of bums wandering around the halls, agendas or not. ha.

The policy is silly, and agendas can be forged just as easily as any other pass. And how could it make them”much more responsible?”

The Agenda rule…. well it kinda seems like the school is turning minor issues into big ones ta make a statement no one is getting. There are many more problems the faculty of NA should be dealing wiff, yet the Agenda rule is like number one on every teachers list. Why make a big deal out of something small???? it doesn’t change anything. making a stricter policies every year is only making kidds either switch schools or drop out. Yes, rules are necessary, but is the Agenda rule in place ta help admin. spot students from ppl not welcome on campus? If students don’t wish ta use the agenda’s, they just don’t. making a stricter rule abt such does not force the students ta do so. If that was the case… there would be no discipline problems!
