I must say that my sister is in love with Death Note and the few times she made me watch it, i thought it was great(: I completely agree with the "mainstream annoyances" statement. SInce you love anime so much, try watching xxxHolic. I promise the xxx means nothing, though i am not positive of the age group. Originally, the anime was a manga, which the New York Times rated the #6 manga. Nerds are my favorite.
