Jacket Regiment 2009

It was stormy Saturday night, but there was a sea of highlighted green “Risk” T-shirts in the Midland Valley stadium. The North Augusta Jacket Regiment traveled this past Saturday to Midland Valley high school. Midland Valley was the host of the 12th Mustang Classic Competition. Ten bands attended. North Augusta competed in class 4A along with TL Hanna high school.

The Jacket Regiment placed second overall in the competition. Our color guard and drumline received awards for best in their class. Sophomore Jackey Maahs says “Wow, our first competition was really great Saturday. I’m super excited for the colorguard and drumline for their win! I can’t wait for practice on Monday, to make our show even better for next week.”

The Jacket Regiment also won an award for best support from parents. Clarinet player Anna Long says “ It was pretty amazing, having all the parents come out with our show shirts, and even if we didn’t win, it was still cool knowing that we were really close to winning.” The Jacket Regiment performed last at 8:15 p.m.

This year’s show is called Risk. The show consists of three movements; movement I: The Risk of Creativity, movement II: The Risk of Trust, and movement III: The Risk of Balance. The Jacket Regiment had a good start in their first competition. The band is looking forward to their next five competitions. On Saturday October 3, the Jacket Regiment will be the host for Bands Across the Savanna.
