Each year, the faculty of North Augusta High School undergoes an extensive process to choose one teacher to recognize as Teacher of the Year. This year, Mrs. Carol Creamer was nominated by her peers to receive the honor. North Augusta High School teachers nominate one another, filling out a form that explains why they feel a certain teacher should be recognized. Then, the names are put on ballots and the faculty votes. Often, the process requires a revote also. Finally, the faculty and staff reveal who they have chosen as Teacher of the Year.

I recently sat down and talked with Mrs. Creamer about her experience as being selected Teacher of the Year.

• What was your first reaction when you heard the news?

“I was shocked and experienced disbelief. Then, a feeling of great humility came about me.”

• What does it mean to you to be selected as Teacher of the Year?

“It is a wonderful honor to be recognized by my peers as effective in making the school a better place and helping children to learn. You never think it will happen to you until it does. It is a splendid affirmation of one’s career choice to be recognized as a significant contribution.”

• What kind of legacy do you wish to someday leave behind for future teachers?

“It is important to accept each child as an individual and to meet every student where he/she needs you. You should treat each student with respect and love, as school should be a joyful place where they can have fun.”

• If you could give your students one piece of advice, what would it be?

                   “Say your prayers.”

If every teacher could be like Mrs. Creamer, the world would be a better place. Students and teachers alike praise her teaching style and positive attitude. Senior Kelsey Hornback states that Mrs. Creamer is “different in numerous ways. I like it. She’s extremely unique.” Mrs. Creamer is indeed one-of-a-kind. I would venture to say that none of her students have ever experienced a method of teaching quite like hers. According to senior Lindsey Patton, Mrs. Creamer “keeps things fresh. She’s a good teacher and I’m excited for her.” It’s safe to say that Mrs. Creamer’s integrity, devotion, knowledge, and love for her students make her an exceptional role model for both her students and her fellow teachers. She will never be forgotten as a wonderful educator. North Augusta High School is proud to call Mrs. Carol Creamer our Teacher of the Year.
