As of this past Thursday, Pujols is officially a Los Angeles Angel. The contract was comprised of three agreements: a playing contract, a marketing deal, and a personal-services agreement. The playing contract states that he is to receive over $240 million during the next ten years along with several perks that include a hotel suite on every away game, luxury suite at the home ballpark that is to be reserved ten games out of the season for the Pujols Family Foundation (an organization seeking to help Domincans in poverty and those affected by Down Syndrome), and a right to a luxury suite between first and third base on any home game.

The marketing agreement is the extra compensation for the milestones that Pujols is expected to reach. When he hits his 763rd home run to take the home run record, he will receive seven million dollars; after his three thousandth hit, he will receive three million dollars; on top of that, there is a grand total of $875,000 in possible award bonuses every year that Pujols can earn for being awarded either the Most Valuable Player in any significant game series, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, or becoming an All-Star.

His salary will begin at $12 million this year, rise to $16 million next year, to $23 million the year after that, and then rise $1 million every year until 2021 where he will be making $30 million at the age of 41. This is the third contract in baseball history to reach $200 million, behind Alex Rodriguez in both of his deals with the Texas Rangers and the Yankees. Now, Pujols has the third highest salary in baseball behind Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Howard.

Our short and sweet predictions on what happens tonight during the National Championship between Alabama and LSU (Honey Badger approved).

Andrew
For starters, we will see a little bit more offense tonight than the last meeting. The LSU defense will shut down Bama’s passing attack, but I see Richardson running for a solid 125-150 yards. We won’t see much of the Honey Badger on special teams because Nick Saban is smart enough to kick the ball away from him. LSU will put together two or three solid drives, and will head into the 4th quarter with the lead. Alabama will threaten late, then throw an interception and LSU wins their third BCS National Chamionship.
LSU 21 Alabama 15

Cody
This game is all about the defensive toughness both these teams provide. Look for a low scoring back and forth grind all night. Don’t see this one turning out to be a shootout. Special teams will be the difference tonight in New Orleans. LSU wins the kicking battle once again.
LSU 13 Alabama 10

McKinley
Battle of two SEC titans. The LSU and Alabama rematch everyone has been waiting for. Keys to the game will be agian special teams, mainly the Honey Badger. If Albama’s defensive and special teams speed can contain Mathieu and the power offense of LSU they may have a shot at redemption for their earlier loss. I do not see that happening, Les Miles and LSU will come out with the win.
LSU 17 Alabama 10

No sarcastic pun to begin this article…the Penn State situation is not a laughing matter. I would rather not even mention the name Jerry Sandusky or talk about anything that involves that sickened man. Unfortunately, considering this is one of the largest scandals in collegiate sports history, it would be a shame for me not to give my valued opinion.

In order for Penn State to have any sort of revival, steps must be taken carefully. The entire staff of the football program needs to be wiped out. Recruiting is going to suffer greatly. Finding a new head coach is not going to be a walk in the park, either. The football program is going to be on the downfall for years to come. I don’t see any sort of success in the next few years for the Nittany Lions. My only advice is to hire a young, up-and-coming coach. Young coaches are more appealing to recruits and will spark a program that has had the same head coach for 46 years.

Alabama-LSU National Championship Rematch?
The possibility of an Alabama vs. LSU rematch in the national championship is becoming greater and greater. Boise State blew it against TCU, which completely puts them out of the picture. Alabama must win out, and Oklahoma must defeat Oklahoma St. I believe a one-loss Alabama will make it to the National Championship over a one-loss Oregon. The ACC champion will not make it to the National Championship because there’s so much traffic in front of them. My prediction is that it won’t matter because Oklahoma St. gets the job done and faces LSU for the national championship.

Pig Sooie?
LSU must stay focused. As crazy as this sounds, Arkansas is still in the national title hunt. A win over LSU makes a three-way tie for the lead in the SEC West. If that is the scenario, the team with the highest BCS ranking goes to Atlanta (for the record: this is the 7th tiebreaker). The winner of the SEC East will more than likely be Georgia. South Carolina will win the East if Kentucky pulls off a Christmas miracle and defeats Georgia. Unfortunately for South Carolina, Georgia had an easier conference schedule. South Carolina defeated every team in the East, but lost to Arkansas and Auburn. Georgia lost to South Carolina, but won all other conference games including Ole Miss, Auburn, and Mississippi St. from the West.

ShOrtage
Where has the unstoppable Clemson offense gone? It seems as if the Tahj Boyd Heisman talks were so long ago. The Clemson offense has been slipping since the second half of the season began. The Tigers were fortunate to win against Wake Forest, but the best team in the ACC shouldn’t go to the last second against the Deamon Deacons. Clemson should have a good week at NC State to warm up for the riavalry in Columbia against the Gamecocks. The battle of the Palmetto state should be a good one. Carolina’s defense vs. what I think will be a revitalized Clemson offense is going to be one heck of a matchup. Win or lose, the Tigers are in the Orange Bowl with an ACC Championship victory.

After a slim victory over the Patriots the week before, the Jackets came back with a vengeance. It began with a seventy-eight yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Vinny Miller. On the next drive, Vinny scored again with a seventy yard run to the in-zone, putting the score at 12-0. Within another

minutes, Vinny put another six points on the board, making the score 18-0. However, the Bruins answered back with a touchdown of their own on the next drive. In response, Vinny shut them up with another touchdown, putting the score at 24-7. According to John Chambers, this paved the way for the Jackets to put three more touchdowns on the board from three complete passes to Montez McGuire, Devontez Rouse, and John Chambers. This gave the younger guys a chance to get a taste of the Friday Night lights towards the end of the game. The defense limited the Bruins to three touchdowns for the remainder of the game, making the final score to be 46-20. The Jackets will live to fight another day.

For the second year in a row, the Yellow Jackets are practicing on Thanksgiving and will play on Friday night in Goose Creek. They are 12-1 as well and defeated Northwestern the past Friday Night 41-7. Despite their loss in the scrimmage that summer, the Jackets are planning to repay them in kind. The Jackets have advanced at least one game further every year in the playoffs for the past three years. In order to continue this tradition, Philip White claims that the offense must score as much as possible, limit the turnovers, and maintain control of the clock. As far as the defense, Cameron Porter claims that as long they execute the game plan and stifle Goose Creek’s running game, the Jackets should win. If the Jackets do indeed defeat Goose Creek, they will advance to the state championship for the first time in twenty-two years. Support your Yellow Jacket football team and take the trip to Goose Creek High School on Friday Night!!

The Jackets football team has faced many doubts throughout the season and answered back to the critics with a stiff arm to the face. Coach Dan Pippin was both excited and optimistic for this upcoming season and the team has gone beyond the call to surpass those expectations.

The Jackets have a three-headed offense attack that is the only one in the CSRA with a 2,000 yard passer, 2,000 yard rusher and 1,000 yard receiver in QB Tyrell Hillary, RB Vinny Miller and WR Montez Mcguire, respectively. Along with other receivers such as Devontez Rouse, John Chambers, Andrew Mayson, Trey Morgan, and an offensive line that breaks open holes for the run game and halts defenses in its tracks, the Jackets are stacked on the offensive side of the ball posting up 36.5 points per game. But no team is complete without a solid defense to back up the offense.

The defense is oppressive in every way, shape and form. The defense has allowed only 20.08 points per game. It all starts with a fast and forceful defensive line that is relentless in their attacks against an opposing offense. The linebacking corps is a solid, hard hitting and ferocious led by senior captain Zavier Miles. And last, but not least, a lockdown secondary that includes Devin Grimes, Robert Morgan, Trey Morgan, and Devontez Rouse. With this powerful defense, along with an explosive offense, the Jackets were ready to start the road to Death Valley with their first game against rivals Midland Valley.

The Jackets would kick off the season at Midland Valley High School taking on the Mustangs. On this night, the Jackets would win 25-7 making it their 15th straight win against them.

After there the Jackets had their home opener against Dutch Fork and would get the win with a score of 49-35.

They then had a small road trip against Lakeside and Sumter, both producing victories and boosting their record to 4-0.

A swift victory against the Evans Knights sent the jackets back on the road for a rematch against Northwestern. The Jackets came out with a huge win after a clutch late-game FG by PK Mitch Redd which would put the Jackets up 31-21 in the fourth quarter and ultimately victory, a win that OL Conner Fowler described as “Vengeance.”

The Jackets would face a bump in the road after a heartbreaking loss to the Lexington Wildcats after a controversial call set up the Wildcats for a FG that would give them the 59-56 win. The team would bounce back the next week with a 36-8 win at White Knoll. The Jackets would then go on to win out the rest of the regular season against South Aiken, Aiken, and Orangeburg-Wilkinson. Against Orangeburg, RB Vinny Miller would set the record for most touchdowns in a single season, and most rushing yards in a single season. Miller would credit his offensive line on Facebook: ”Shout out to my o-line for helping me make my own place in history…thanks to you guys I kno (sic) how I will be remembered in north Augusta history…as the most single season TD title holder.” Miller, along with WR Montez Mcguire, would be selected to play in the annual North/South Game. Coach Pippin will also be on the sidelines as he was selected as well. In order to complete the road to state, the celebration would have to be brief because the playoffs were right around the corner.

The Jackets finished the regular season going 10-1, earning a #5 seed in the playoff bracket. The start down the road would begin with their first round game at home against J.L. Mann, coached by former offensive coordinator Brian Strickland. The Jackets won this game 27-20 after a big 4th-down deflection by LB Ronald Williams sealed the victory for the Jackets. This game would be a reminder to the Jackets that the Title will not be handed to them. Last Friday, the Jackets defeated South Florence 46-20 to move on to the semi-finals where they will travel on the road to play Goose Creek.

It was a fierce game played by the Hornets, who won the contest by scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-15.North Augusta just could not keep up with the high powered offense of Aiken. The defending state champs never trailed in all three games and with each serve left North Augusta another point away from a comeback.

The Lady Jackets came into this contest on their high horse, winning four straight including two back to back road wins. The girls played consistently well all season, and many doubted the abilities of this squad. Senior Destinee Wilson said, “I never expected the team to go this far, but I feel like we grew closer as a whole as the season went on.”

The time has come for the big showdown in Tuscaloosa, Alabama between the #1 LSU Tigers and the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide.

Both teams had off weeks to prepare for this epic battle between #1 and #2. In the history of the AP Polls, dating back to 1936, #1 and #2 have met 45 times with the #1 team holding the advantage in the series with 26 wins and 17 losses along with 2 ties. The last time a #1 and #2 met in the regular season was back in 2006 when #1 Ohio State defeated #2 Michigan 42-39.

The LSU-Alabama Rivalry dates back to 1895 when the Tigers won the first meeting in Baton Rouge 12-6. Over the century, the Tide would dominate the series including an 11 game win streak in the 1970s. The last few decades though, the rivalry has intensified as the teams have been 14-14-1. After 2007, the media named the series the “Saban Bowl” after Alabama hired former LSU coach Nick Saban. If you look at the overall record of the series, odds favor the Tide as they lead the series 45-24-5, although LSU won their most recent matchup last year in Baton Rouge winning 24-21.

For the eleventh time in their franchise history and second in this decade, the St. Louis Cardinals are World Series Champions.

They were the comeback kids this baseball season. They were 10.5 games back from the Atlanta Braves in the wild card in late August. No one expected them to even come close to getting in the playoffs. Fortunately for the Cardinals, the Atlanta Braves, as usual, choked and allowed the Cardinals to pass them into the playoffs.

Their first opponent, the Philadelphia Phillies, was perhaps the most highly favored ball club to win the World Series. Despite the odds, Chris Carpenter and the Cardinals managed to pull out a 1-0 win in Game 5 of the National League Division Series to advance into the pennant series against the Milwaukee Brewers, an underdog themselves. Before this year, it has been twenty- three years since the Brewers had clinched the National League Central. On top of that, they were in 5th place in the National League Central by early May, had a seven game losing streak, and a 0-4 start to the regular season. They started off strong against the Cardinals in the series with two quick wins within the first four games. However, they lost it in the last two due to the ridiculous amount of errors and hits given up. They gave up a total of SEVEN errors those two games, NINETEEN runs, and TWENTY-FOUR hits. St. Louis then, advanced to the World Series.

The first game was well played by both teams. They gave up no errors and played small baseball by taking advantage of clutch situations. A huge turning point was the pinch hit single by Allen Craig to score the winning run in the sixth.

The second game was also very close. Neither team scored until the Cardinals broke the ice in the seventh with another RBI hit in by Allen Craig. Then, the Rangers knocked in two in the ninth inning and shut the Cardinals down in the ninth to take the win.

In Game 3, the St. Louis Cardinals whipped the Rangers 16-7 due to three errors and the 15 hits given up by the Rangers.

The Rangers came back swinging in game 4, winning 4-0, and picked up another win in Game 5 thanks to two RBIs driven in by the Rangers’ catcher, Mike Napoli.

However, the Cardinals were not going to roll over and die. The Cardinals showed up to play in game 6, taking the lead early by knocking in two runs to start the game. The teams battled back and forth the whole game and ended up tying in the ninth inning. The game went into extra innings. Both teams scored two in the tenth. Then, in the eleventh, the Cardinals managed to shut down the Rangers and get a chance to bat. David Freese ended the game with a walk-off home run to win the game for the Cardinals.

Finally, it was Game 7. The Rangers got excited and put up two runs in the first inning. The Cardinals answered back with two more. Then, in the bottom of the third, Allan Craig put the Cardinals on top with a solo home run in the third. The Rangers had no answer. Then, Carpenter along with the rest of the Cardinal pitching staff, stifled the Rangers the rest of the game, making the Cardinals the World Series Champions. Congratulations to Tony La Russa and the 2011 St. Louis Cardinals!

One week after the first list of BCS rankings was released there was a major shake up in the top 10. Preseason #1Oklahoma was upset by unranked Texas Tech Red Raiders 41-38 which dropped them down to #9. Also former #6Wisconsin was defeated by an underrated Michigan State squad after a final play Hail Mary gave the Spartans the 37-31 victory and dropping the Badgers out the top 10. Those are just some of the twist and turns as the teams journey toward that ultimate goal of a national championship. As the teams gear up and prepare for the homestretch here’s a midseason report of the top 10 teams.

1. LSU- Is there any question about this one? The Tigers led by Coach Les Miles looked poised, powerful, and prepared to make a run at the National Championship. The Tiger’s offense is lead by the quarterback duo of Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee. Coupled along with RB Spencer Ware and star receiver Rueben Randle, this offense averages 39.3 points a game. Along with a forceful defense that allows only 11.5 points a game, this Tiger team is ready to capture another national title for the SEC. They started the season in Dallas with a huge win over last year’s runner up champions, the Oregon Ducks. However, they still have a few more challenges down the road and it starts on November 5 as they’ll travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. The journey isn’t over then for they’ll have to end their season against a strongArkansas team.

Key Player: QB Jarrett Lee- He’s stepped into the leadership role for the Tigers after the absence of Jordan Jefferson. His stats may not be top notch having only 1,250 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, but one stat that sticks out is only one interception this season.

2. Alabama- The Crimson Tide is showing its head again in the top 10 as usual with Coach Nick Saban on the headset. The Tide offense starts in the back field with RB Trent Richardson, one of the most dangerous running backs in the nation, who helps the Tide post 39.4 points per game. On the other side of the ball, they have an oppressive defense that allows only 9.6 points a game which is tops in the NCAA. In order for the Tide to have a shot at title number 14, they must beat LSU at home. Then they also have a rematch against rival Auburn after an embarrassing 28-27 loss last year.

Key Player: RB Trent Richardson(Heisman Hopeful)- Richardson has proven himself to be one of the best running backs in the nation game after game this season and his stats back him up to as he has 989 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns, both second in the nation.

3. Oklahoma State- With one of the most deadly offenses in the nation,Oklahoma State clocks in at #3 in the standings this week. The Cowboys’ offense starts at the quarterback position with Brandon Weeden taking the snaps. Along with receivers Justin Blackmon and Josh Cooper, the Cowboys have an aerial attack that throws for almost 400 yards a game and 48.6 points per game, each second in the nation. As for the other side of the ball, the defense is lackluster allowing 26.9 points per game. The Cowboys stated their claim in the top 10 after two big road wins against Texas A&M and Texas, but they are far from a lock in a BCS bowl game and possibly a national title shot as they still have a tough game against a surprising Kansas State team, a road test against a momentum-filled Texas Tech and one more road test against the Oklahoma Sooners.

Key Player: QB Brandon Weeden- Weeden leads the aerial attack on this team and his stats prove him to be a great quarterback. With over 2,400 passing yards and 19 touchdowns, Weeden will be the key to if the Cowboys will continue to their goal of a national championship.

4. Boise State- This team is the most doubted team in the nation. Year after year the Broncos win and stay consistently in the top 5, yet is always held back because of the conference they play in and their strength of schedule. The offense follows behind the forceful arm of Kellen Moore. However the Broncos have the second option of RB Doug Martin. Stat wise, the defense is one of the top defenses in the nation, but looking at the teams they play it could be better. Looking at the schedule, Boise’s toughest team remaining will be the TCU Horned Frogs and then most likely a BCS bid, but if they get too eager, they’ll find themselves dropping like last year after that heartbreaking loss to Nevada.

Key Player: QB Kellen Moore(Heisman Hopeful)- No question here.Moore has proven himself to be the best true passing quarterback in the nation. With 2,010 passing yards and 24 passing touchdowns,Moore is looking at another trip toNew York.

5. Clemson- I may get hate mail for this but no matter how much you may hate them, Clemson has proven themselves to be deserving of their #5 rank. Coach Dabo Sweeny wasn’t looking so hot at the beginning of the season after only beating Wofford by 8, but after 3 straight wins after Auburn, Florida State, and Virginia Tech the Tigers look to be BCS bound and it all starts on the offense. Clemson’s offense starts with their awe striking passing game conducted by QB Tahj Boyd. Receiving the ball is the speedy combination of Sammy Watkins and Deandre Hopkins, coupled along with a solid running game led by Andre Ellington. The offensive line is sketchy as Boyd has been sacked 15 times. The defense can be shaky at times, especially after allowing 45 points toMaryland, but they must remain forceful throughout the rest of the season to retain that ranking. Clemson has a key road game against Georgia Tech this weekend, then the annual game against a down, but not out South Carolina team.

Key Player: QB Tahj Boyd(Heisman Hopeful)- Yes, Heisman Hopeful. Boyd is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation and his stats back up that statement. He has over 2,300 passing yards and 24 passing touchdowns, as well as 6 rushing touchdowns.

6. Stanford- The Cardinals remain in the top 10 after a rocky start to the off-season as Coach Jim Harbaugh announced he was taking the job as the San Francisco 49ers head coach. But “Luck” would come to the Cardinals as QB Andrew Luck would return for his senior year. On offense along with the senior QB is WR Coby Fleener and Chris Owusu, in addition to RB Stepfan Taylor in the backfield. Combined this offense produces around 49 points per game. The defense is strong and powerful allowing only 12.6 points per game, but in order for the Cardinals to remain this high they will need to remain determined and dominant to achieve a BCS bid. The Cardinals have yet to be truly tested yet this season, but they will be pushed to the breaking point on November 15 as they host an explosive Oregon Duck team.

Key Player: QB Andrew Luck(Heisman Hopeful)- Luck is the leadership the Cardinals need to piece together this season and produce anotherBCS bid. His stats are hit and miss. He doesn’t have 1,900 passing yards, but is consistent shown by his 71% completion rating and 20 passing touchdowns.

7. Oregon- The quack attack is back and better than ever. After falling short to the national championship by a last second field goal to Auburn, the Ducks returned determined and ready to make another run to the BCS game and the journey all starts with the offense. With the QB/RB duo of Darron Thomas (left knee) and LaMichael James (dislocated elbow) out for now, the true depth of Oregon was tested and passed with flying colors (so far). Leading the attack is 2nd string QB Bryan Bennett and RB Kenjon Barner and a receiving group where 9 different receivers have a touchdown which makes this electrifying offense tough to contain. The offense averages 328 rushing yards a game along with 48.1 points per game. The defense is solid allowing about 20 points a game which is enough for the offense to capture the win. The Ducks started the season off as they ended last season with another SEC loss, this time to LSU. Since then the Ducks have been on cruise control and will remain there until that big showdown against Stanford where they will need their offense to be full strength.

Key Players: The Receiving Corps- Yes most credit does go to LaMichael James because of his dangerous ability to run the ball, thus freeing up receivers down field, but this team is filled with receivers that are fast and able to catch the ball easily which allows more targets for Thomas or Bennett to throw to. This creates the fast-paced offense that the Ducks are able to run and that is difficult to contain and even harder to stop.

8. Kansas State- Honestly I think they moved up too much too fast. The Wildcats, for right now, stand as an overrated team, but during the next few weeks could prove themselves of that ranking. The offense is headed by QB Collin Klein and RB John Hubert in the backfield. The offense is mostly run-oriented averaging 213 rushing yards per game. The defense is pretty good as well only allowing 19 points a game, but this K-State team has yet to be truly tested. The toughest team they have played have been the Baylor Bears and that was only by a 1 point margin. Going down the stretch the Wildcats must face Oklahoma, then at Oklahoma State, then back home to face Texas A&M, and then back on the road toTexas.

Key Player: QB Collin Klein- Klein defines the offense for this team. His passing stats are mediocre throwing for not even 1,000 yards and only 8 touchdowns, but what he lacks in passing he makes up for in running the ball. He leads the team in rushing yards, 670, and rushing touchdowns, 14.

9. Oklahoma- The Sooners came into the season with all the momentum in the world as they were pre-ranked #1 in the AP Poll. The offense is led by QB Landry Jones, who is accompanied by the All-American wide-out Ryan Broyles. In addition to a strong pass game, the Sooners possesses a solid rush game headed by RB Dominique Whaley. This menacing passing offense averages 379 passing yards and 44.3 points per game. The defense is rock solid holding opposing offenses to only 19 points a game. Oklahoma took a small step back this past week by being upset by Texas Tech, but they can’t dwell on this loss for long because there is still work to do and could put the Sooners back in the race for a BCS bid. The road won’t get any easy as they’ll have a road test against Kansas State, then against Texas A&M the following week. They also have to play a quiet, but deadly Baylor team and then end the season at Oklahoma State.

Key Player: QB Landry Jones(Heisman Hopeful)- One of the best passers in the nation, Landry Jones could be taking a trip up toNew York this December. Jones has passed for almost 2,600 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. This week, his leadership skills with come into play to see how he picks his team up after last week’s loss.

10. Arkansas- Arkansas has yet to truly prove their #10 rank, but going down the stretch they’ll face some tough adversaries. The Razorback offense has one of the best passing and scoring teams in the nation and at the helm is QB Tyler Wilson combined with his leading receiver Jarius Wright. The running game is almost non existent with RB Ronnie Wingo Jr. as the leading rusher with not even 300 yards rushing. The defense is decent at best allowing 21.3 points per game. Arkansas has been sketchy at times this season after close wins over Ole Miss and Troy and their only loss coming to Alabama. The Razorbacks still have tough games down the road as they play South Carolina in two weeks and wrap up the season on the road at LSU.

Key Player: QB Tyler Wilson- Wilson is the cornerstone of this offense since the rush game is weak.Wilson has been able to fill that gap in the offense by passing for 2,011 yards but only has 12 passing touchdowns. He’ll need to continue to work hard and put the team on his back in order to remain in the top 10.

Team to look out for: Michigan State- After an early season loss to Notre Dame, in two weeks the Spartans have climbed their way up to#11 after two huge wins giving Michigan and Wisconsin their first loss of the season. The offense is respectable averaging 29 points per game with QB Kirk Cousins running the show. What became a major part of Michigan State is their forceful defense, who allows only 13.7 points each game. They have another test coming up this week as they’ll face a tough Nebraska team. From there the Spartans just have to keep playing consistently, win the Big Ten conference championship and earn a BCS bid.

Under the radar: QB Russell Wilson (Wisconsin)-Wilson’s stock may have dropped after the loss on the road toMichiganState, but the quarterback has been nothing short of incredible this season. He’s only thrown for 1,780 passing yards and 16 touchdowns, but his completion percentage of 73% and his 204.9 passer proves his reliability as a quarterback and keeps him in the talks for the Heisman Trophy.

Sorry I haven’t been on top of my game with these blogs…I’ve been too busy partying it up with Stephen Garcia back at his home in Florida.

1. Clemson in general has been the biggest surprise to me this year. I knew bringing in Chad Morris would tremendously help the offense…but undefeated and #5 in the country? Quarterback Tajh Boyd is in the Heisman talks, and there is no question that receiver Sammy Watkins is freshman of the year. Head coach Dabo Swinney is no longer on the hot seat…thanks to his assistant Coach Morris. In my opinion, Morris is more deserving to be the big guy in charge. I know everybody in Tiger Town loves Swinney, and he is a likable guy, but Morris has completely turned around the mess that was Clemson football. Dabo Swinney is just not a head coach in many people’s eyes, not just mine. Morris’ main flaw is his experience. Two years ago he was still a high school coach. I’m not sure if he is ready to take over a BCS school.

2. This Saturday’s matchup between Tennessee and South Carolina is going to be an interesting one. Both squads are depending on inexperienced quarterbacks, and South Carolina cannot afford to lose if they want to return to Atlanta. South Carolina is the only team from the East that controls its own destiny. If the Gamecocks win out, they’re in the SEC Championship. A Georgia loss against Florida sure would take some pressure off Carolina, too. If Carolina and Georgia both finish with the same amount of conference losses, Carolina gets the nod due to the head-to-head matchup. Georgia has improved greatly since week two, and has a great shot of winning the East.

3. Speaking of the inexperienced quarterbacks, one name should sound very familiar. Justin Worley gets the start this week for Tennessee. Coach Dooley pulled his redshirt last Saturday, and he will be replacing the struggling senior Matt Simms. Unfortunately for Tennessee, original starter Tyler Brey will probably be suffering from a broken thumb for the remainder of the season. Anyways, back to Worley. Justin Worley was the quarterback for Northwestern High School last season. Northwestern and Worley took a trip to North Augusta last October and faced the Yellow Jackets. Worley lead his team to the 4A State Championship, and Worley was awarded National Gatorade Player of the Year. Considering his redshirt was pulled, he will probably remain Tennessee’s starter for the remainder of the season. An interesting storyline going into this game is Worley vs. Clowney. Worley and South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney were cross-town rivals in high school. Worley and Northwestern beat Clowney and South Pointe last season. It will be interesting to see how much pressure Clowney puts on Worley this Saturday.

4. It will be interesting to see how Georgia’s defense plays Saturday. Defensive Coordinator Todd Grantham has his hands full figuring out a gameplan. He must be prepared to face three different Florida quarterbacks. John Brantley is expected to play, along with freshman quarterbacks Brissett and Driskel. It was very smart of Will Muschamp to announce Brantley will be playing. That forces Georgia to practice much more this week on different formations that fits Brantley’s style. It will keep Georgia guessing all week on what to expect. Brantley might not even play but just a few snaps, which means Georgia wasted practice time this week. If that’s the case, I’ll tip my hat to Muschamp. Great strategy, coach.

5. Just a little side note to the Cocktail Party, Florida coach Will Muschamp’s alma mater is Georgia. Muschamp played safety for the Bulldogs back in 1990. Muschamp originally wanted to play for Florida, but some guy named Steve Spurrier turned him down.

6. Who’s idea was it to plan both LSU and Alabama’s bye weeks the week before they play each other? We are still over a week away from the game, and it’s all anybody is talking about. Both squads will be perfectly healthy and ready, and I’m expecting a war. The winner of this game will be the national champion, possibly defeating Boise State in the national championship. That would be fun.

7. Just because Wisconsin lost by a hail mary last week doesn’t mean Russell Wilson cannot win the Heisman. He is by far one of the leading candidates and I expect him to be in New York come December. Andrew Luck leads the race, as he should, and gets my vote so far as the Heisman winner. Tajh Boyd is beginning to strengthen his case, and Kellen Moore is in there as always.
