Music shapes the way we think. Music can bring to our attention things that never would have been discovered on any other occasion. Music affects every person the same in one way: it helps us to release our built up emotions.

Controlling emotions is one thing teenagers have an issue with. If a teenager is frustrated, he or she may go listen to music that clears their minds. If he or she is happy, then the joyful sounding, upbeat music will be pulled out. If he or she is feeling somber, most likely the slow, sad songs are being played. Teenagers play music to match their moods and sometimes to improve them. Music is a relaxer and a comfort to many.

Junior Abigail Aldred agrees that music is a good-feeling regulator. She says, “Anytime I have a lot of feelings, good or bad, all I have to do to release them is look to my music.”

Teenagers connect to their music in that way; it soaks up all of their worries, and it aids in their happiness and helps to forget their sadness.

Junior Kristen Barbour knows how music aids her already cheery moods. “Music can intensify my mood. If I’m already happy, listening to my favorite music gets me bouncing off the wall.”

Music is the main thing teenagers use to release emotions. For senior Kevin Dunbar, music is his major stress reliever. “Music takes me away from all the stress and problems in my life.”

Kristen says, “When I’m upset, music soothes me. I stop focusing on what’s wrong and let the sounds fill my head.”

Aldred prefers moving and shaking to free her pent up emotion. “Singing, dancing, and playing are all an escape of reality for me. ”

Sometimes, music can just make us feel great, which is one reason why many people love it. Senior Tre Abney feels this way. “My music makes me feel great.”

Music can define us, encourage our moods and emotions and release our feelings and worries. Trey says, and most teenagers would agree with this, “My music represents my life.”

Many teenagers would say this along with Dunbar, “Music makes me feel alive. It allows me to express how I feel and just be free to say what ever I want.”
