Dear John Book vs. Movie

Do you know what a Dear John letter is? It is a letter that girls would write to soldiers to break up with them while they were at war. Nicholas Sparks wrote a book named Dear John which was recently made into a movie. The book was by far amazing, because it developed the characters and was so much more detailed. But any book is going to be more detailed than a movie, because you can put so much into a book that you can’t put into a movie.  The movie on the other hand was not so great, it didn’t develop the characters like I thought it would, I was very disappointed with the outcome of the movie.

Dear John, the movie, left out so much it was a let down. A lot of key points that were in the book were left out. Savannah’s character is described as being a good girl, who likes to move slowly and take time getting to know the guy she is talking to. In the movie she didn’t take any time to plant a kiss on John.

The movie turned a lot of the book backwards and inside out. John goes from being a bad boy, smoking and drinking all the time and getting into fights. If you just watch the movie you would never know that he has a bad past. Same thing goes for Savannah, she has a past and in the book she pours her heart out to John telling him everything and in the movie that never really happens.

I would not recommend seeing this movie if you really enjoyed reading the book, because it will seem like everything is wrong in the movie and you will most likely hate it like I did. If you didn’t read the book, then definitely go see the movie, if I hadn’t read the book I would have loved the movie.

I saw the movie first. And I absolutely LOVED it. It probably doesn’t hurt that Channing Tatum is absolutely gorgeous! LOL! But anyways…like I said I adored the movie.

I’ve watched it over and over and over. I can’t get enough. The other day I decided that I should read the book. I read it all in the same day. It was nice to be able to put some faces to names. I will agree that the book and movie have a lot of differences. Some really bothered me.

I’m sure that if I read the book first, I would’ve been disappointed in the movie.
